"For the first time in three years, such horror": Russians attempted to break through in Kherson
Russian military forces shelled Kherson at dawn on December 20. This was reported by the head of the city military administration, Roman Mrochko.
He later clarified that the shelling of the city is ongoing, with casualties among civilians and numerous strikes recorded on apartment buildings. Specifically, at least five high-rise buildings, eight private houses, an administrative building, and a lyceum were damaged. Mrochko later reported three injured and two fatalities:
"A 76-year-old resident of Kherson has been hospitalized in serious condition... He sustained mine-blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to the chest. Another man, aged 63, was hospitalized with a concussion, blast injury, and closed traumatic brain injury. Doctors are currently conducting examinations. The third victim of the enemy shelling in Kherson has been admitted to the hospital. A 44-year-old man suffered blast injuries and traumatic amputation of fingers on his right hand. It has been confirmed that there is a second fatality resulting from today’s attack by Russian occupiers on our community. In the Central District, a 75-year-old man sustained injuries incompatible with life."
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Alexander Prokudin, reported that Kherson is under heavy shelling from Russian artillery and urged residents to stay in shelters. He also mentioned the actions of sabotage and reconnaissance groups attempting to advance towards Kherson.
Prokudin further stated that Russia shelled 44 settlements in the Kherson region over the past day. Russian forces targeted social infrastructure and residential areas, damaging 12 high-rise buildings and seven private homes. Due to Russian aggression, one person was killed and another 18 were injured.
The occupiers have turned Kherson into a true hell. Explosions have been heard in all districts of the regional center. The enemy deliberately attacked residential buildings, social and critical infrastructure. "For the first time in three years, such horror," said Kherson residents whose homes were hit by Russian terrorists, recalling the morning.
60 thousand residents of Kherson region left without electricity
Due to massive Russian shelling, approximately 60 thousand subscribers in the Kherson region are without power. Damage to critical infrastructure has led to power outages in some neighborhoods of Kherson. Energy workers are conducting emergency restoration works to restore electricity supply as soon as possible.
Assault on the right bank of Kherson
On the morning of December 20, the Russian army attempted to storm the right bank of Kherson. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Nikolaevsky Vanek". Two assault groups attempted to seize the area near the Antonovsky Bridge under heavy artillery fire. The assault was unsuccessful. The strike groups were destroyed. Numerous reconnaissance drones were spotted in the Kherson area.
Later, the Telegram channel reported that the battle ended almost as soon as it began.
It was noted that several days ago an entire company of the 24th Marine Brigade refused to carry out a "major" task, which allowed them to survive. Those who operated near the Konka River perished.
The battle for the Dnieper Islands
Russian military forces regularly attack the liberated parts of the Kherson region with drones, rockets, and other types of weaponry. Earlier, the head of the Kherson OVA, Alexander Prokudin, reported that Russia is preparing a large-scale offensive on Kherson, having prepared 300 boats for crossing the river.
According to representatives of the Ukrainian forces, the battles for the Dnieper islands are among the most challenging forms of combat. This is due to both the terrain features and the strategic importance of the region.
