A soldier assaulted a woman: a court in Mykolaiv has sent him to pre-trial detention
In Mykolaiv, a court has remanded a 41-year-old serviceman in custody without the right to bail, who had deserted his unit and violently attacked a woman.
According to the Central District Court of Mykolaiv, on the night of February 16, the man attacked his acquaintance, allegedly out of jealousy, inflicting serious injuries. The victim was hospitalized. During a search, law enforcement found the body of an RGD-5 grenade and a detonator in the suspect's possession.
During the court proceedings, the soldier admitted to leaving his unit without permission but claimed he did so for medical treatment. He and his lawyer requested that he not be isolated from society.
However, Judge Volodymyr Lyashenko considered the threat to the victim and witnesses, the risk of flight, and the possibility of further crimes, and subsequently ordered the suspect to be held in custody without the option of bail.
