A new memorial day will be established in Ukraine: proposals from the Verkhovna Rada
The Verkhovna Rada has proposed to establish a National Day of Prayer in Ukraine. It will be celebrated annually on February 24, the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This information is reported in project №12336 regarding amendments to Article 73 of the Labor Code.
The project has been submitted by a large group of deputies led by the head of the ruling party "Servant of the People," Davyd Arakhamia. Therefore, the project has a good chance of becoming law.
According to the law, a special parliamentary session is planned for the National Day of Prayer, which will begin with the performance of Ukraine's spiritual anthem "God, Great and One."
The Cabinet of Ministers will develop a comprehensive plan for celebrating the National Day of Prayer at the state level within three months, involving representatives from the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
Local state administrations are to ensure the preparation and implementation of the activities for the celebration of the National Day of Prayer and conduct a nationwide action titled "Light a Candle."
As noted in the explanatory note, on February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The enemy expected that it would take only a few days to capture Ukraine; however, Ukraine not only withstood but also gave a worthy response to the aggressor, maintaining its statehood and demonstrating the strength and resilience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"This was made possible by a highly motivated army, the Ukrainian society which demonstrated extraordinary unity and solidarity in the people's resistance to the occupiers, as well as the prayers for Ukraine that rose across the world during those days," the document states.
According to the deputies, prayer to God is a supernatural force for victory and a guarantee of the consolidation and unity of Ukrainian society.
"Joint prayer will protect Ukraine and those who continue to fight on the battlefield, serving as a testament to the spiritual unity of the Ukrainian people and a symbol of our unwavering faith in victory," the explanatory note emphasizes.
The authors of the project also provide historical examples where national prayer changed the course of history, particularly during World War II in the United Kingdom and the United States.
