After seven years, authorities in the center of Mykolaiv have decided to demolish the illegal fence surrounding "Mason," formerly known as "Mafia."

In the center of Mykolaiv, after 7 years, it has been decided to demolish the illegal fence around the "Mason," previously known as the "Mafia."

In Mykolaiv, members of the executive committee are being asked to instruct the administration of the Central District to dismantle the unlawfully erected metal fence surrounding the restaurant "Mason" at 75-a Central Avenue.

The corresponding draft resolution has been put forward for the next meeting of the executive committee.

According to the document, the fence surrounding the dining establishment was installed without authorization and is subject to removal.

It is worth reminding that this concerns the restaurant that was “built by force” in 2017 at the intersection of Central Avenue and Soborna Street, disfiguring the appearance of one of the city's symbols — the famous "teremok," which was formerly the "Sadko" café and originally a tram substation. A scandal arose when the restaurant with the symbolic name "Mafia" was constructed, with a black glass aquarium built significantly higher and larger than planned — just to ensure the famous "tower" was completely obscured. Around that same time, a tall metal fence was erected, enclosing not only the area around the restaurant but also a large portion of the boulevard section of the avenue. Over time, the restaurant was transformed into "Mason," but the essence did not change — both the black aquarium and the tall fence remained in place.

After 7 years, the city authorities have finally addressed the issue of what right the owners of the entertainment venue had to seize part of the boulevard and have prepared a draft resolution for the demolition of the enclosure.

It remains unclear how this initiative will conclude — first, a vote is needed for the decision, and then, as experience shows, the actual demolition often never materializes. Nevertheless, the former appearance of one of the city's "calling cards" cannot be restored — here, the dismantling of the fence will not help.
