Heating is not functioning at boarding school No. 7 in Mykolaiv, forcing children to sit two classes in one room to stay warmer.

This issue came to light during a session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council held on Thursday, December 19.

During the session, Deputy Olga Grigorieva addressed her colleagues and spoke about the difficult situation currently faced by the students and teachers at boarding school No. 7. According to her, the heating is absent due to an emergency, and to conduct lessons, students and teachers have to seek warmer places.

- The educational building at our regional boarding school is currently cold. Children and teachers are huddled in hallways and utility rooms, with two classes studying in one room. Teachers conduct lessons remotely in hallways and other locations where it is somewhat warmer. I find this unacceptable, - emphasized the deputy.

At the same time, Olga Grigorieva reported that the regional council had already reached out to the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration regarding this issue.

- I contacted the regional council, and the regional council reached out to the regional military administration concerning the lack of heating at our regional boarding school No. 7. The esteemed deputy head of the regional military administration provided me with a response stating that funding for the design works will be included in the regional budget for 2025. Emergency repair funding will be provided from UNICEF funds. However, the situation compels me to raise this issue. I checked the program, and there is no funding for 2025 for heating supply repairs, pipe replacement, yard surface replacement, and project documentation. In other words, this is not planned for 2025, - the deputy explained.

Additionally, Grigorieva urged her colleagues to get involved in solving the heating issue at the boarding school and find funds for the pipe repair.

- We need to resolve this. Including it in the program is one thing, but the second is to get involved and sort it out. There are 452 children studying there, including 53 children with disabilities, 7 children with special educational needs, and four children whose parents have lost parental rights. All the children have various cardiovascular diseases, and so on. I do not understand why we cannot find 1.5 million for the repair of this pipe? I ask you to get involved and let's include this issue in the program, - said the deputy.

Then, the head of the regional council, Anton Tabunshchik, spoke and stated that: first, this issue should be thoroughly examined at a special commission meeting, and second, he would personally address the regional military administration on this matter.

- Several pathways moving forward. First, we will consider this issue at the relevant commission if it has not already been discussed. I will address the regional military administration separately on this matter. We will also directly activate efforts regarding measures that provide for the implementation of this issue, - said Anton Tabunshchik.
