In Mykolaiv, on Soborna Street, employees of the municipal enterprise "Mykolaiv Parks" have resumed pruning plane trees. However, inspectors discovered that these actions were being carried out without adequate justification.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspection of the Southwestern District.
They noted that instead of the recommended sanitary pruning, most trees underwent a severe rejuvenation pruning, with complete removal of the crown down to the base of the skeletal branches.
“Such practices violate the Rules for the Maintenance of Green Spaces in Settlements of Ukraine. Rejuvenation pruning is permissible only for trees whose tops are dying, and where growth has ceased, and it should be conducted gradually over several years. Such actions result in large wounds that make trees vulnerable to fungal infections, disrupt the functioning of trunks and branches, and effectively turn trees into deformed specimens,” the statement said.
The state inspectors have drawn up 4 protocols under Article 153 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses regarding the employees of "Mykolaiv Parks".
For damaging 5 plane trees to the extent that growth has ceased, the estimated damage amounts to 65,200 UAH.
On the morning of Wednesday, January 8, workers from the municipal enterprise "Mykolaiv Parks" again began pruning trees on Soborna Street in Mykolaiv. Police officers, representatives of the State Environmental Inspection of the Southwestern District, and the director of the enterprise, Dmytro Chuchmai, arrived at the scene. The police halted the tree pruning work.
