“It is definitely necessary”: Head of the Housing and Public Utilities Department on the construction of a trolleybus line in the Ship District

The Director of the Housing and Public Utilities Department of the Mykolaiv City Council, Dmytro Bezdolny, stated the need to complete the trolleybus line construction in the Ship District.

He made this announcement during a briefing that took place on Friday, January 17.

It is worth noting that the construction of the trolleybus line in the Ship District was halted shortly before the full-scale invasion of the Russian army into Ukraine.

- We had this project in our department; last year we carried out certain works to separate the launch complexes. The part that was originally commissioned by the Housing and Public Utilities was put into operation. Other launch complexes of the project were transferred to KP “Mykolaivelectrotrans,” the head of the department explained.

He pointed out that the enterprise “Mykolaivelectrotrans” does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Housing and Public Utilities, so the official is unaware if funding for the project is planned in the budget for 2025.

However, according to Dmytro Bezdolny, even with the procurement of trolleybuses with autonomous movement, he believes it is reasonable to finish the construction of the trolleybus line in the Ship District.

- What we have at the moment is not sufficient (trolleybuses with autonomous movement, - ed. note), and there can be various situations. I believe it is necessary. We might launch mixed-type trolleybuses there, or the autonomous ones could operate on other routes where these networks do not exist, but they would run charged from them and be able to make larger loops. So it is definitely necessary; this is a remote area, - said the Director of the Housing and Public Utilities Department.
