
Who Can Be Dismissed from Military Service in 2025: A List
During the period of martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine, military personnel are concerned about the possibility of being dismissed from service. The Ukrainian law "On Military Duty and Military Service" outlines the grounds under which servicemen can be released from military service, as explained by lawyers from the legal firm Іпѕеіпіпіп, as reported by Focus.
Who Can Be Dismissed from Military Service in 2025
Experts have indicated that the grounds for dismissal from military service in 2025 can be divided into three categories:
- due to health reasons (unfit for military service);
- due to family circumstances (disability, three children, caring for a disabled relative of group I or II, adopting a child);
- a court sentence convicting an individual of a crime with imprisonment in correctional facilities.
A serviceman may be dismissed from military service due to:
- sole custody of a child (children) under 18;
- having three or more children under 18 in the family of the serviceman;
- the need to care for a child with a disability or an adult child with a disability of group I-II;
- adoption of an orphan or a child deprived of parental care;
- caring for a wife with a disability of group I-II;
- the necessity of providing constant care for a family member of the second degree of kinship (brothers, sisters, grandchildren, grandfather, grandmother) who is a person with a disability of group I or II, if there are no other persons available;
- the necessity of providing constant care for one of their parents or the parents of their spouse with a disability of group I or II, if there are no other persons available;
- having a court decision on guardianship over a person deemed incapacitated;
- the death of close relatives or if they went missing while directly participating in an anti-terrorist operation or in defense against and containment of armed aggression from the Russian Federation;
- the awarding of the title of Hero of Ukraine to a close relative.
