The State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicion against the oligarch MP Novinsky
Employees of the SBI, in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine and under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, have announced suspicion against the "curator" of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, Vadym Novinsky, a member of parliament from several convocations representing the banned pro-Russian party "Opposition Bloc." He is suspected of treason and inciting religious hostility and hatred.
This information was reported by the SBI and the Security Service.
"As established by the investigation, since the onset of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine in 2014, he has promoted Russian narratives through interviews in the media, public speeches, as well as posts on his own website and social media. The MP attempted to foster anti-government and pro-Russian sentiments within Ukrainian society, justifying Russian aggression.
The pro-Russian MP, who followed the directives of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev), maintained close communication with him for a long time and was hierarchically subordinate to him, acting as a so-called "curator" from the Russian Orthodox Church and effectively representing a religious organization of a foreign state.
Moreover, the elected representative, acting in support of the foreign policy of the aggressor country, systematically engaged in public speeches exhibiting signs of religious intolerance and animosity," the report states.
It is noted that after the full-scale invasion of the Russian army into Ukraine, he resigned from his duties and is currently hiding abroad. However, he continues to exert informational influence aimed at harming Ukraine's sovereignty, its state and informational security, achieving military-political goals set by the Russian leadership concerning Ukraine, and providing Russia with assistance in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine in the informational sphere.
Comprehensive judicial psychological-linguistic examinations appointed by the investigator confirmed the facts of the MP's criminal activities in the interests of Russia.
Based on the evidence obtained, the individual has been notified of suspicion in absentia under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
Part 1 of Article 111 (treason);
Part 2 of Article 161 (violations of citizens' equality based on their racial, national, regional affiliation, and religious beliefs, committed by an organized group).
