More than one hundred thousand people in Mykolaiv are left without heat, - Zelensky

On Sunday, February 16, over one hundred thousand residents of Mykolaiv were left without heating due to a strike by a Russian “Shahed” on the city's critical infrastructure.

This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“A typical Ukrainian city, ordinary civilian infrastructure. This has nothing to do with combat actions or the situation at the front; it further proves that the Russians are fighting against our people, against life in Ukraine. And they do so treacherously, without easing their pressure. This is not how those who truly desire peace and are preparing for negotiations act,” the president noted.

He emphasized that repair teams are currently working actively to restore heating in Mykolaiv.

“We will continue to work together with partners to strengthen defenses against such strikes. It is also crucial for all partners to work actively at all levels to prevent Russia from dragging out this war or making the threat to life a permanent one. We need to press Russia towards peace. The recent strike by a ‘Shahed’ on a shelter at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, this strike on Mykolaiv, and all other similar Russian strikes should provoke a strong reaction, our collaboration – all partners – and joint efforts to compel Russia towards peace. I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine and Ukrainians!” the president summarized.

As a result of the attack, there are damages to critical infrastructure, and a fire has broken out. Additionally, five apartment buildings were damaged due to falling debris and shock waves.

In the aftermath of the attack, a 64-year-old man was injured and hospitalized. The condition of the injured party is currently stable.

In the center of Mykolaiv, the ‘Shahed’ exploded on the roadway – offices and shops were damaged.

Residential buildings in Mykolaiv were damaged, and a shop was completely destroyed after the explosion.
