VW Tiguan goes minimal: Volkswagen unveils its smallest and most affordable crossover yet (photos).

At the Rio de Janeiro carnival, the new Volkswagen Tera was unveiled. This model will go on sale this year and is set to be the most affordable crossover from the German brand. Detailed information about it has been revealed on the official Volkswagen website.

The Volkswagen Tera crossover is a compact B-class model that utilizes the MQB-A0 platform from the VW Polo hatchback. It measures approximately 4 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2566 mm. The exact price of the model has not been disclosed, but it is expected to be under $17,000. Interestingly, Volkswagen recently showcased an electric crossover for $19,200.

The design of the Volkswagen Tera is striking and athletic, featuring short body overhangs, a curved window line, and muscular, flared wheel arches. From the front, the crossover resembles the VW Tiguan thanks to its elongated LED headlights and wide air intake. The rear window is topped with a spoiler.

The resemblance to the VW Polo is evident in the Tera's interior. The hatchback's steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and a number of switches have been borrowed. The top-tier Highline version features a 10.25-inch touchscreen, ambient LED lighting, 17-inch wheels, wireless smartphone charging, and a suite of safety systems.

The Volkswagen Tera crossover is powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 116 hp. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, although a manual option may be introduced later.
