Due to a massive attack on Odessa during the night of February 18 to 19, more than two hundred thousand residents found themselves without electricity and heat. On February 19, local educational institutions will not accept children until the situation improves. Currently, there is one reported injury, with the individual being taken to the hospital for necessary assistance. Simultaneously, local authorities, in collaboration with utility services, have set up tents and heating and invincibility points. This was reported by the Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, on the morning of February 19 via his Telegram channel.
According to him, an entire neighborhood in Odessa suffered as a result of the massive enemy attack by "Shaheds" that occurred overnight: more than 500 residential buildings were affected, housing over 250,000 people.
The mayor also reported significant damage to a local kindergarten and children's clinic.
Today, February 19, the city will have assistance points for citizens: the mayor noted that services are setting up tents, local heating points will begin to receive residents, as well as invincibility points. There, residents will be able to warm up and charge their devices while the situation stabilizes and the supply of heat and electricity to homes is restored.
Odessa and the surrounding area suffered the most from the Russian attack last night. The "Shaheds" approached the city in several different waves, sequentially attacking the regional center and its suburbs. Locals reported severe fluctuations in voltage and power outages in several neighborhoods following the initial strikes. Soon, DTEK reported emergency power outages in Odessa and nearby areas.
As a reminder, during the night, Russia launched a massive drone strike with "Shahed" type drones on Ukrainian territory. Among other targets, the capital was under attack, where there were reports of explosions and active anti-aircraft defense operations.
