On the night of January 17-18, Russian occupation forces carried out a massive drone attack on Ukrainian territory, and by morning, a missile threat was declared in various regions of Ukraine. This was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Throughout the night, there were reports of enemy strike drones moving in different directions, posing a threat to various Ukrainian regions.

At 5:08 AM, it became known that a "Shahed" drone was already in the skies over Kyiv.

"Attention! Kyiv! Enemy UAV over the city! Stay in shelters!" — the message stated.

Twenty minutes later, a series of repeated explosions echoed across Kyiv.

The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, explained that air defense systems were operational in the capital, and later reported that a non-residential building was on fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

"Fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Non-residential building. All units are heading to the scene," — Klitschko wrote.

Following a series of explosions, "Suspilne" reported that water supply had been disrupted in some areas of Kyiv.

After 6 AM, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported the first casualty from the Russian attack on the capital.

"According to operational data, there is 1 fatality in the Shevchenkivskyi district as a result of the enemy attack," — Tkachenko wrote.

Later, Tkachenko reported that the number of fatalities in the Shevchenkivskyi district had risen to 3.

Additionally, at half past six in the morning, Vitali Klitschko reported that the glass elements at the entrance to the "Lukyanivska" metro station were damaged due to the Russian attack.

"It is currently closed for entry and exit. Trains are passing without stopping at the station," — Klitschko wrote.

The Mayor of Kyiv also noted that a water supply pipeline was damaged in the Shevchenkivskyi district, windows were shattered, and there was smoke in the stairwell of a residential building. Photos of the consequences of the pipeline burst also spread online.
