The cost of vehicle ownership is one of the key factors when choosing a model. It does not always correlate with the price of the car; sometimes, inexpensive models can be costly to maintain. The American website Self selected the cheapest and most expensive cars to own.
As part of the study, the annual ownership costs of various models were compared. The analysis included expenses for fuel (or charging electric vehicles), maintenance, and insurance.
It was found that hybrids and electric vehicles are, on average, 15% cheaper to maintain than cars with internal combustion engines. The most economical brands in terms of ownership costs are Tesla, Nissan, and Honda, while the most expensive are Lexus, Ram, and GMC.
Among the top 10 cheapest vehicles to own are not only budget cars but also Tesla electric vehicles and family sedans.
The highest ownership costs are associated with full-size pickups and SUVs.
