A woman who was on a 9-hour flight found herself quite puzzled when she returned from the restroom and discovered a mysterious note on her seat. She shared the details of this story on a themed forum on Reddit, gathering a multitude of likes, comments, and other reactions.

The anonymous message contained just one question: "Hi, can I have your number?" Since the sender did not identify themselves, the woman was unable to respond, even if she had wanted to.

The Mysterious Note

"I had a seat by the aisle. Next to me was a much older married couple (the man was beside me), but he didn’t talk to me at all during the flight. I have no idea who else it could have been," the story's author recalls.

Interestingly, her boyfriend was also on the same flight but sat further up — across the aisle. When the woman showed him the note, he said he "had no idea" who left the message, but assured her that it wasn’t him.

Женщина в самолете нашла на своем месте таинственную записку, какой-то мужчина просил у нее номер телефона

"I have a significant other, so I'm not interested in dating, but even if I were single, why would I give my number to a stranger we haven't even met?" the passenger reflects on this story.

Readers' Opinions

Readers in the comments section found amusement in the situation, offered their ideas on what to do in such cases, and shared their own stories of spontaneous flirting.

  • "It seems like whoever left this didn't think it through," wrote one participant in the discussion;
  • Another joked: "I think the only solution is to stand up and loudly announce your phone number";
  • "Well, I would ask those spouses," wrote another;
  • The next Reddit user shared a similar experience: "I was driving at a red light. A car stopped in the far left lane to turn left. When the light turned green, that person turned right to drive past me and started shouting for me to give my number."

Later, the story's author noted that due to this incident, she spent several hours of the flight "in quiet embarrassment."

As a reminder, during a stroll along the beach in Peterborough (Australia), a man stumbled upon an unusual find — a message in a wine bottle. Upon opening it, it was revealed that the note was sent by American Joe Johnson, who tossed it into the ocean near Rio de Janeiro on November 3, 2008, during a cruise. The sender expressed hope that he would someday receive a reply to his message.
