A compact hatchback MG Metro from 1987 has been put up for auction at Iconic Auctioneers in the UK. The expected bid for the car ranges from £200,000 to £240,000 ($250,000 – $305,000) — comparable to a new Lamborghini Urus. Details about the vehicle were shared on the auction's website.
The auction features an extremely rare high-performance version, the MG Metro 6R4. Only 200 of these cars were produced.
The high-performance MG Metro 6R4 was developed to qualify for the World Rally Championship (WRC). Regulations mandated that racing cars have production counterparts.
The 6R4 version is significantly different from the standard MG Metro. This hatchback has been converted to all-wheel drive and mid-engine configuration. It is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine from Cosworth, generating 250 hp. Weighing just 1000 kg, the vehicle can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 220 km/h.
The MG Metro 6R4 can be visually distinguished by its body kit, flared fenders, and large rear wing. The interior features racing seats and a safety cage, while the rear seats have been removed to accommodate the engine.
This particular MG Metro 6R4 has only traveled 5,500 km and has undergone a complete restoration.
By the way, this is not the most expensive MG, as some classic models can fetch up to a million dollars.
