Today, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of Saint Macarius the Great. He was a Christian saint and hermit who engaged in spiritual discussions with the people, taught humility and gentleness, and spent much time in prayer. He was regarded by the people as a great advisor and healer of ailments. This day is also known as the spring indicator, as the weather was used to predict the upcoming spring.
