Customs officials in Transcarpathia discovered a shipment of Finomel infusion solution in a minibus transporting humanitarian aid from Germany to Ukraine. The medical products, valued at 1.5 million UAH, were confiscated.
As reported by the Transcarpathian customs on January 10, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter carrying humanitarian aid entered through the "Astey" customs post at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. The cargo was destined for a charitable organization in Mukachevo.
“The driver verbally confirmed that he was transporting 720 kg of food and 70 kg of used clothing according to the documents. Customs officers inspected the entire contents of the ‘humanitarian aid’ and found 8 boxes containing Finomel infusion solution,” the Transcarpathian customs officials stated.
The driver explained that the goods were loaded in Germany, and he did not inspect them. In turn, the head of the charity organization mentioned that the boxes with medical supplies were loaded by mistake, which is why she did not include them during the electronic declaration of humanitarian aid.
“It turned out that an official from the German charity provided false information regarding the name and quantity of humanitarian aid in the documents, which was then included in the Declaration of the list of goods recognized as humanitarian aid,” customs officials noted.
A protocol for a customs violation was drawn up against the foreign national under part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The penalty prescribed by the article includes a fine ranging from 50 to 100% of the value of the items involved in the violation and their confiscation. The Finomel infusion solution, valued at 1.5 million UAH, was seized.
