As part of the development of a pedestrian boulevard on Chornovola Avenue in Lviv, six kiosks will be relocated to a different site. This was announced on Thursday, January 9, by the Deputy Mayor for Urban Development, Lyubomyr Zubach.

According to him, the relevant decision was previously voted on by the deputies of the Lviv City Council. Entrepreneurs will continue their operations at a different address approved by the Department of Architecture.

“This is the first, but significant step in 'unloading' the avenue from temporary structures. This is an alternative that the working group created by the mayor proposed to entrepreneurs,”Zubach stated.

He added that the group continues to work and that demolitions will only occur voluntarily until its completion. Lyubomyr Zubach also urged entrepreneurs whose kiosks are included in the Comprehensive Scheme of Temporary Structures to join the discussions, as, according to him, the main opponents of creating a pedestrian boulevard on Chornovola Avenue are those entrepreneurs whose kiosks were excluded from the Comprehensive Scheme five years ago. This concerns at least ten such pavilions.

“I remind you that the decision to create a public space on Chornovola Avenue was made by the deputies back in 2021 during a session of the Lviv City Council. Even then, these kiosks could have been demolished, but they continued to function. That was our position. Entrepreneurs had three years to find an alternative. We are ready to offer this alternative today. But for this, there must be a constructive conversation, not a language of ultimatums,” – added Lyubomyr Zubach.

Additionally, the development of the pedestrian boulevard envisions the renovation of the pedestrian area of Chornovola Avenue from the Lipynskyi – Chornovola ring to Warsaw Street, covering a distance of 1.2 km. After the reconstruction, this space will not only serve as a transit area but will also become a place for relaxation, with street furniture installed along the boulevard.

Local entrepreneurs will contribute to financing the implementation of this idea. Part of the pedestrian boulevard concept has already been realized during the reconstruction of the area around the Arsen supermarket and the new McDonald’s restaurant at the intersection of Chornovola Avenue and Panch Street.
