A Mercedes driver evaded punishment for a fatal accident in Prykarpattia that claimed two lives.

The Tysmenytsia District Court found local resident Dmytro Levkovych guilty of violating traffic safety rules, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. For his actions, the driver of "Ask Invest" LLC was sentenced to 5 years in prison, but the court replaced the actual term with 3 years of probation.

The verdict was delivered on December 27. It concerns a traffic accident that occurred on April 1, 2024, on the Mukachevo – Lviv highway between the villages of Yamnytsia and Tyaziv in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Dmytro Levkovych, driving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with an Opel Insignia. As a result of the crash, the driver and a passenger of the latter vehicle died at the scene.

During the court session, the resident of Prykarpattia admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for his actions. The court took into account that the accused had no prior convictions, was positively characterized by his place of residence and work, had a young daughter to support, and had not received any narcological or psychiatric assistance.

The victims, to whom Dmytro Levkovych compensated the damages, had no claims against the accused and requested the court not to deprive him of his liberty.

After reviewing all the case materials, Judge Maria Khomynets found the driver of "Ask Invest" LLC guilty of violating traffic safety rules that led to the death of two people and sentenced him to 5 years in prison without depriving him of the right to drive vehicles. The actual term of punishment was replaced by the court with 3 years of probation.
