On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 25, rescuers received a report about a fire raging through reeds along the bank of the Mertvoed River in the city of Voznesensk.
This information was provided by the State Emergency Service of the Mykolaiv region.
A unit from the 12th State Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival and conducting reconnaissance, it was determined that the flames posed a threat to residential areas as they were raging approximately 100 meters away, and in a worst-case scenario, the fire could spread to private properties.
Due to strong winds, the fire managed to reach several gardens. However, thanks to the timely actions taken by the rescuers, they were able to prevent the flames from reaching residential buildings. Within half an hour, firefighters extinguished the fire over an area of 4.5 hectares.
The State Emergency Service involved 10 firefighters and 3 special vehicles in the firefighting efforts.
“Burning reeds has no positive effects; it only harms both the water body and the surrounding environment! Moreover, in many cases during dry grass fires, there is a threat to the property of citizens. Wake up! Do not provoke fires in natural ecosystems!” - the message stated.
