A reconstruction of Shevchenko Square is planned in Mykolaiv: they aim to spend 20 million

A large-scale reconstruction of Taras Shevchenko Square is set to take place in Mykolaiv, with over 20 million hryvnias expected to be allocated. The project aims to create a comfortable and modern public space that combines historical heritage with innovative leisure and recreational solutions for residents.

This information was reported by the Center for Public Investigations, referencing the ecosystem of Dream.

The renovation of the square aims to establish a comfortable and modern public space, focusing on preserving historical heritage and enhancing the cultural and social life of the city.

The reconstruction was developed by specialists from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, taking into account sustainable development principles. Special attention will be given to space safety, environmental friendliness, and energy efficiency.

The main changes proposed in the reconstruction include:

  • Restoration of the historical appearance – renovation of monuments and architectural structures.
  • Infrastructure upgrades – installation of new benches, gazebos, bike paths, sports and children's playgrounds, as well as the creation of a unique open-air library.
  • Landscape greening – planting trees, shrubs, and flower beds to make the square cozier.
  • Inclusivity – creating spaces for people with disabilities.
  • Cultural events – establishing a special area for festivals, concerts, film screenings, and other events.
  • Modern children’s playgrounds equipped with safe and interactive elements.

The total project budget is 21 million hryvnias; however, additional funding is needed for full implementation.

According to the project description, Shevchenko Square is a vital center for cultural and social life in Mykolaiv. Its renovation will not only help preserve historical heritage but also create a comfortable space for relaxation, communication, and community development.

The initiator of the project is the Mykolaiv City Council, with the Department of Housing and Communal Services as the executor, and KP "Mykolaiv Parks" as the asset holder. The reconstruction adheres to environmental standards and has the potential for a positive impact on urban development. The estimated duration of the project is 12 months.
