The Kyiv police, in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), apprehended a 43-year-old man who attempted to carry out a terrorist attack using an improvised explosive device on the instructions of enemy intelligence services.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv police.
The incident occurred when law enforcement arrived in response to a domestic violence call. The "complainant" stated that her boyfriend had assaulted her, and she had hidden in the bathroom, leaving the apartment door open.
However, upon entering the apartment, the officers realized that there was a "booby trap" inside. Thanks to their prompt actions, the police managed to exit the premises before the grenade detonated.
As a result of the search operations, the Kyiv police detectives, along with personnel from the Department of Internal Security and the SBU, apprehended the perpetrator, who turned out to be a 43-year-old resident of the Kyiv region with a history of criminal offenses.
It was established that enemy intelligence services recruited the man via a messenger app. Under the direction of his handler, he had rented an apartment in advance, installed surveillance cameras to document his actions, and planted explosives. The call to emergency services made in a female voice was a ruse to lure the police into a trap. After committing the act, the perpetrator hid at his residence, where he was eventually arrested. Notably, the enemy had promised to pay him "generously" for carrying out the terrorist act, but the suspect never received any funds.
The suspect has been informed of charges under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for committing a terrorist act. The court has ordered his detention without the right to bail. The offender faces a sentence of up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
