Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, have agreed to jointly assist the unrecognized Transnistria in overcoming its energy crisis. This decision was made by the leaders of Ukraine and Moldova during a phone conversation. On Wednesday, January 8, reported by "European Truth," citing Maia Sandu's press service.

Maia Sandu and Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the humanitarian crisis in Transnistria, which has arisen due to the cessation of Russian gas supplies.

“The leaders of the two countries agreed to find common solutions to prevent the worsening of the humanitarian crisis and to protect the affected population, including the use of alternative energy sources such as coal,” stated the press service of the President of Moldova.

During his evening address, Volodymyr Zelensky also assured that Ukraine would help Moldova "navigate the challenging period of energy challenges." He emphasized that the energy situation in Moldova, particularly in Transnistria, is an attempt by Russia to manipulate energy resources against the Moldovan authorities.

“We are ready to assist Moldova, particularly with coal. It is crucial to maintain stability and provide all people in Moldova with conditions to live peacefully and work for their country, to overcome poverty, and to advance our joint movement towards the European Union,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.

It is worth noting that on January 2, in Transnistria, all industrial enterprises ceased operations due to the halting of Russian gas supplies through Ukraine, and heating was turned off in the homes of the unrecognized region. By January 3, there were rolling blackouts implemented due to increased load on the energy system.

The authorities in Transnistria stated that they would use coal for electricity generation, which would last almost until the end of winter. However, on January 4, Moldova's government crisis center reported that the coal in Transnistria would only last until the end of January.
