The Executive Committee of the UAF has nominated the president of the Association, Andriy Shevchenko, as a candidate for the UEFA Executive Committee, reports the official website of the organization. The 48-year-old head of Ukrainian football is vying for one of two positions in the Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations, with a term of office lasting two years.
The elections will take place on April 3 in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade – 20 candidates will compete for 8 vacant positions.
Additionally, the Executive Committee has selected delegates from the UAF for the 49th UEFA Congress, which include UAF president Andriy Shevchenko, UAF vice-president Oleksandr Shevchenko, and UAF general secretary Ihor Hryshchenko.
It is worth noting that previously Ukraine was represented in the UEFA Executive Committee by former UAF president Andriy Pavelko, but following a change in leadership at the UAF, the Association officially requested the removal of the controversial leader at the end of April 2024.
As a reminder, Shevchenko took over the UAF in January 2024, succeeding Pavelko, who was suspended at the end of winter 2023. Before this, Andriy Mykolayovych was the head coach of the Ukrainian national team (2016-2021) and led the national team to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.
