В ЕС планируют ограничить использование соцсетей для детей до 15 лет.

Educational institutions within the European Union are discussing a ban on social media usage for children under the age of 15. The French government has urged Poland, which will hold the EU Council presidency in January 2025, to establish age restrictions for access to online platforms. This was reported by “Osviatoria”.

In France, there is already a nationwide draft law that prohibits access to social media for teenagers under the age of 15. French officials believe that the European Union should follow the example of Australia, which has implemented a ban on social media for children under 16 years old.

The French Minister of Education, Ann Geneviève, presented this idea at a meeting of EU ministers of education and youth. She emphasized that this issue constitutes an emergency situation. “We would like something very similar to be applied in Europe. It is absolutely urgent that we implement something,” the minister was quoted by Politico.

France proposes to prevent children from having contact with gadgets until the age of three, and from ages three to six, children should not be left alone with them without parental supervision. Additionally, children should not use mobile phones until they are 11 years old, and social media until they are 15 years old.
