In Ternopil, a turnip was pulled from the sewer, causing a significant blockage.

The turnip has grown significantly and clogged the drainage well.
В Тернополе из канализации извлекли репу, которая вызвала серьезную засор.

Employees of the municipal enterprise "Ternopilvodokanal" retrieved a turnip from the sewage system near a hotel and restaurant complex. The plant had grown significantly and caused a serious blockage. The company suspects that the root vegetable was simply flushed down the toilet, and after several months, it clogged the well.

At "Ternopilvodokanal," it was noted that their employees responded to a call regarding a clogged sewage well. The published photos show that the blockage occurred on Chumatska Street, near the entertainment complex and hotel. When the manhole cover was opened, it was discovered that the water and debris were being held back by the turnip's root system. The specialists from the sewage network department managed to clear the blockage on their own.

“In the photos, there are evidently remnants of last year's harvest that caused the blockage in the sewage network.
However, the situation turned out to be less amusing than in the Ukrainian folk tale.
To clear the sewage network of the blockage, neither Grandpa, Grandma, nor granddaughter Marushka were called for help. Ultimately, those unfortunate root vegetables were extracted from the external (street) sewage system,”reported the municipal enterprise "Ternopilvodokanal" on Friday, January 10.

The enterprise emphasized that the issue of blockages in the sewage system remains relevant. In 2024, the employees of "Ternopilvodokanal" cleaned over 2800 sewage nodes.

The management of the municipal service stressed that the sewage system is not a landfill. Food scraps, hygiene products, rags, and other waste should be disposed of in the trash, not in the toilet, sink, or sewage well. The only thing that can be easily flushed down the toilet is toilet paper.

“Thoughtlessly disposing of trash into the sewage system creates problems for residents and utility workers, particularly complicating the operation of sewage pumping stations and sewage treatment facilities,” – stated the Ternopilvodokanal.
