Trump Appoints Special Envoy for the War in Ukraine
Donald Trump has appointed retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg as the special representative for Ukraine. Kellogg presented Trump with a "peace plan" aimed at ending the war.
This was initially reported by Reuters, and later confirmed by Trump himself on his Truth Social network.
"Keith has had an outstanding military and business career, including serving in very important national security positions during my first administration. Together we will ensure peace through strength and make America and the world safe again," Trump wrote.
Although the position of special representative for Ukraine does not currently exist, Trump has previously expressed interest in its creation.
Background:
Keith Kellogg (born in 1944) was the Chief of Staff of the National Security Council at the White House during Trump's presidency (2017–2021) and served as a national security advisor to Vice President Mike Pence.
Kellogg developed a "peace plan" for Ukraine alongside Fred Fleitz, which includes freezing front lines and compelling Kyiv and Moscow to negotiate. According to the plan, the U.S. would inform Ukraine that it would receive more weapons only if it participated in negotiations, while warning Moscow that refusal to negotiate would lead to increased American support for Ukraine. Ukraine's NATO membership is postponed for the foreseeable future.
