Rescuers extinguished a fire at the dormitory of Lviv University.

On Monday, January 6, firefighters extinguished a blaze in a 9-story student dormitory in Lviv. The fire broke out in the communication shaft of the Ivan Franko National University building located at 2 Yevhen Pluzhnyk Street.

According to the emergency services, the report of the fire in the dormitory was received at 15:36. Rescue units from Lviv were dispatched under an increased emergency call.

“The firefighters, equipped with special respiratory and eye protection gear, promptly began to rescue individuals and extinguish the flames. Using rescue devices, the emergency services saved 5 people. Additionally, to ensure safety, the rescuers evacuated 5 individuals to fresh air,” – stated the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.

The fire was extinguished at 16:08, with 42 rescuers and 9 units of special equipment involved in the operation. The communication shaft containing cables on the 7th floor was ablaze. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The dormitory at 2 Pluzhnyk Street was built in 1986. It previously belonged to the Lviv Financial Academy, which was merged with the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 2015.
