On Saturday, February 1, Russian forces launched an airstrike on a boarding school in the city of Sudzha, Kursk region. Ninety-five people were trapped under the rubble. This was reported by press officer of the temporary military commandant's office in the territory of the Russian Federation, Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi.

According to Dmytrashkivskyi, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation struck the boarding school with a guided aerial bomb (GAB) at 17:54 (16:54 Kyiv time).

“From under the rubble, moans and cries of people can be heard. I remind you that most of them are elderly and bedridden. Search and rescue operations are currently underway by the military commandant's forces,” said the press officer.

According to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at the time of the attack, dozens of local residents were inside the facility, preparing for evacuation. The agency claims that the Russian side was aware that only civilians—local residents, including women and children—were present in the boarding school.

“All possible efforts are being made to rescue the survivors,” the military added.

The General Staff also released a video showing the aftermath of the attack on the boarding school in Sudzha.

Activist Serhiy Sternenko reported on Telegram that prior to the strike, Russians had informed their monitoring channels about their aviation operations over Sudzha.

As of 22:00, it is known that as a result of the Russian strike on the boarding school in Sudzha, four people have died, and another four are in critical condition. A total of 84 civilians were rescued from the rubble, with the condition of four of them assessed as severe.

Military commandant personnel continue to clear the rubble and provide aid to the victims.

Update. The Air Force Command reported that 86 local residents of Sudzha and a National Police of Ukraine station with four police officers were in the three-story building of the former boarding school.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Russians have attacked the boarding school for the elderly in Sudzha. On the evening of January 11, enemy aviation struck the boarding school premises twice. As a result, one woman sustained a laceration to her arm. She later died from her injuries the following morning. All windows and doors in the boarding school were shattered due to the strikes, wrote UNIAN.
