Residents of Mykolaiv captured on video how unknown individuals are performing welding work on the Il-18 aircraft, which is located near the "Kolos" market.
Dmytro Ryabchenko shared this on his Facebook page.
It is noted that the frame of the Il-18 aircraft is well-known among the people of Mykolaiv, as it has been there for a long time. Many remember that films were once screened inside the aircraft at this location. Currently, the aircraft frame near the market is unused and deteriorating. However, many Mykolaiv residents still hope that this aircraft will be transformed into an art object.
“All Mykolaiv residents know that opposite the bus station, we have had the frame of a passenger aircraft for many years (since the Soviet era). It is just a shell (the skin and frame) – it is completely empty inside.
I have raised the issue several times about turning this aircraft into an art object for children.
Inside, everything is rotting – only the frame remains.
If approached creatively, it could become a gem (either move it to "Skazka" or create a children's playground on-site).
A lot of time was spent investigating and inquiring about its documents and ownership, as well as attending deputy commissions. It turned out that it has no owner,” the video caption states.
On Saturday, February 1, Mykolaiv residents recorded a video showing welding work being conducted on the “ownerless” aircraft. It was reported that the police were called to the scene. However, the law enforcement officers did not find anyone conducting the work.
“And today, acquaintances sent me a video showing that some welding work is happening there now.
We immediately called the police – because anything is possible in our city. They could cut it up for scrap metal before you even blink.
The police arrived, but by the time the crew got there, no one was present.
Let’s hope they don’t touch it. Moreover, according to the documents, it is ownerless.
Still, I hold on to this dream of making it for the kids,” the publication states.
