Trump: Putin will keep his word on Ukraine

Negotiations to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine have made "significant progress." Vladimir Putin will not push to resume the war if a ceasefire can be achieved.

This is reported by The Guardian, citing remarks from American President Donald Trump.

"I've spoken with him. I've known him for a long time. We had to go through the 'Russian mystification' together," Trump said, referring to the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 elections.

He also emphasized that he has no doubts about Putin's intentions.

"I don't believe he will break his word. I don't think he will return to war against Ukraine once we reach an agreement. I believe the agreement will happen," he stated.

When a journalist expressed the opinion that Putin cannot be trusted, Trump explained his stance.

"You know, it's the principle of trust but verify. Let's put it that way, and I think we can both be like that. You have to verify because you never know what might happen," he added.
