On the morning of November 23, a protest began at the "Shehyni-Medyka" border crossing on the Polish side. As reported by the Lviv customs office, around 30 demonstrators are moving back and forth across the pedestrian crossing, thereby blocking the movement of trucks.
“The restrictions only apply to freight vehicles: one truck is allowed to enter Ukraine per hour. The protesters intend to allow buses and cars to pass in both directions without changes,” the customs office noted.
However, for now, the exit of trucks weighing over 3.5 tons from Ukraine is completely blocked.
As announced by Polish farmers the day before, the transport blockade will last until the end of 2024.
Recall that the Polish side began the blockade of the border with Ukraine in November 2023. Initially, Polish carriers, followed by farmers, intermittently blocked traffic at various crossing points, demanding better working conditions from their government and the European Union. In particular, they requested subsidies for fertilizers, compensation for fuel excise taxes, immediate payment of all subsidies, the reinstatement of the permit system for Ukrainian carriers, a ban on the import of Ukrainian products, and had other demands that often have no relation to Ukraine.
Polish politicians who supported the blockade have pro-Russian sympathies. ZAXID.NET reported on who was behind the border blockade here.
