A mother and her son tragically lost their lives in a fire in Zakarpattia.
In the evening of February 26, a fire broke out in one of the houses in the village of Strabychovo, located in the Mukachevo district. Authorities discovered the bodies of a 73-year-old woman and her 42-year-old son at the scene.
As reported by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Transcarpathian region on February 27, passersby noticed the fire on Station Street in Strabychovo and called the rescuers.
“Before their arrival, a 74-year-old man, who was using a wheelchair, managed to escape from the burning home and inform them that his 73-year-old wife and 42-year-old son were still inside. Despite the rescuers' efforts, during the fire reconnaissance, the bodies of the woman and her son were found,” stated the State Emergency Service.
The fire, covering an area of 100 m2, was extinguished within two hours. Law enforcement is investigating the cause of the fire.
