In Ternopil region, a driver died in a car accident, while two passengers sustained serious injuries.

A fatal traffic accident occurred in Ternopil region, resulting in the death of the driver, while two female passengers sustained serious injuries. One woman was admitted to intensive care, and the other to the surgical department. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the VAZ 21061 lost control and collided with a tree. Law enforcement has initiated a criminal investigation.

The deadly accident took place after lunch on January 29, near the village of Hermakivka in the Borshchiv community of the Chortkiv district. The VAZ 21061 vehicle crashed into a tree. As a result of the impact, the driver and the two passengers were trapped inside the cabin. Bystanders at the scene called the police, rescuers, and an emergency medical team.

“A forensic and investigative team from the Borshchiv police department was dispatched to the scene. According to preliminary information, the 66-year-old driver of the VAZ 21061 lost control, failed to choose a safe speed, veered off the road, and collided with a tree,” – reported the Ternopil police on Thursday, January 30.

Rescuers who arrived at the accident site used specialized tools to extricate the driver and the two women from the mangled cabin. The 66-year-old man and one of the passengers were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, while another woman was taken to surgery.

However, medical personnel were unable to save the driver's life. The man succumbed to his injuries. Police have initiated a criminal case regarding the traffic accident under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules leading to death).
