On the evening of January 7, a 66-year-old man and his 7-year-old grandson fell through the ice in Chernihiv region. The unfortunate incident occurred on the Snov River in one of the villages of the Kyseliv community, reported the Chernihiv police press service.
According to rescuers, the tragedy unfolded in front of witnesses who heard cries for help but were unable to save the individuals. Witnesses recounted that the boy suddenly ran onto the ice and fell into the water. The grandfather attempted to rescue his grandson.
Rescue teams quickly organized a search operation using specialized equipment and a boat, yet they were unable to save the man and the child.
The police have initiated a criminal proceeding under part 2 of article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder) with a note of "accident." An investigation is ongoing.
As reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Chernihiv, the incident occurred near the village of Brusyliv. Four employees of the State Emergency Service are searching for the bodies of the deceased.
