In Bukovina, police are investigating a road traffic accident that resulted in the death of a 53-year-old pedestrian. The incident occurred on the evening of November 24 in the village of Baniliv-Pidhirnyi in the Chernivtsi region. According to eyewitnesses, the man who was struck by the vehicle was on the roadway. He died instantly from the impact.
The report of the fatal accident was received by the police from witnesses. Callers informed law enforcement that they had found the body of a 53-year-old man on the road with injuries consistent with an accident.
Police, forensic specialists, and medical examiners immediately arrived at the scene. They determined that the victim was a 53-year-old resident of the village of Baniliv-Pidhirnyi, where the incident took place.
"According to preliminary investigation information, a 21-year-old resident of Baniliv-Pidhirnyi, driving an Audi A4, struck the 53-year-old pedestrian. Witnesses and bystanders stated that the man was on the roadway," – reported the police of Bukovina on Monday, November 25.
The body of the deceased has been sent for a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death. The vehicle was seized and placed in an impound lot, with a series of forensic examinations scheduled.
Details of the accident have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles). If the driver's guilt is proven in court, he faces up to 8 years in prison.
