Ukrainian documentary filmmaker Myroslav Chernov has been awarded at the Sundance Film Festival for his film “2000 Meters to Andriivka.” He received the award for Best Direction in the Documentary category.
“2000 Meters to Andriivka” is the second feature film directed by Ukrainian filmmaker, Oscar laureate, Pulitzer Prize winner, and recipient of the Directors Guild of America and BAFTA awards, as well as the Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards, Associated Press journalist Myroslav Chernov, focusing on the Russo-Ukrainian war.
While “20 Days in Mariupol” provided viewers with an emotional and painful perspective on the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on civilians, in this new film, Chernov and his colleague, Associated Press photographer Oleksandr Babenko, turn the cameras toward Ukrainian soldiers, capturing the realities of life in the trenches.
The success story of Chernov's debut film “20 Days in Mariupol” began with a victory at Sundance.
