What it's like to be swallowed by a great white shark: scientists captured astonishing footage of this incredible event.

Researchers have released an unusual video captured directly from the mouth of one of the ocean's most dangerous predators.

The ocean covers more than half of the Earth's surface and is home to a vast array of species, including one of the planet's most formidable predators—the great white shark. For years, scientists have been studying shark populations to reduce the number of attacks on humans and to protect vulnerable populations, and now they have managed to capture astonishing footage, reports IFLScience.

Researchers have presented unique video footage taken from the ocean floor. For years, scientists have been diving beneath the water's surface to observe whale feedings, dolphin swimming, and even shark attacks. Now, they have succeeded in capturing video "from inside" a shark's mouth.

In mid-February, a team of divers was exploring the underwater world off the coast of Freeport in the Bahamas when they encountered sharks. The footage shows a shark approaching a diver, who then tosses a camera into its mouth, which continues to record. As a result, researchers were able to capture incredible footage from inside the shark's mouth, as well as a view "from behind its teeth" as it looks at other members of the group.

Eventually, the footage shows the shark spitting out the camera after being followed by a guide from the diving group. Researchers note that such observations are extremely important, as they allow scientists to learn more about a species that is currently in a vulnerable state.

Interestingly, this is not the first time researchers have obtained footage shot directly from the mouth of a great white shark. Previously, a shark swallowed a diver's phone, which continued to record inside its mouth, and then the predator spit the phone back out.
