HBO Max has released the trailer for the new season of "The Last of Us."

The HBO Max service has unveiled a new trailer for the second season of the post-apocalyptic dramatic series "The Last of Us," inspired by the video game The Last of Us. The first season, released in 2023, received numerous positive reviews from critics and topped box office ratings. The series follows the story of Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenager Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States ravaged by a parasitic fungus pandemic.

The new season picks up after Joel (Pedro Pascal) has saved Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from a deadly procedure.

The trailer for the second season opens with the introduction of a new antagonist, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). Abby seeks revenge on Joel for his deceit. It's worth noting that initially, fans of the game reacted negatively to Dever's casting, as her physique differs somewhat from the character envisioned in the storyline of The Last of Us Part II. Due to the backlash, the actress even had to hire security.

In the second installment, alongside Ramsey and Pascal, Gabriel Luna (Tommy Miller) and Rutina Wesley (Maria) will also reprise their roles.

The events of the new season unfold five years after what viewers saw in the first season. The premiere of the second season of "The Last of Us" is scheduled for April 2025.

As a reminder, the first season of "The Last of Us" won eight Emmy Awards and was nominated for a Golden Globe. Additionally, Pascal received a SAG Award for Best Male Performance in a Drama Series.

The original "The Last of Us" holds the highest rating among games for PlayStation 3. The sequel, "The Last of Us Part II," has the most Game of the Year awards in video game history.
