On Friday, February 28, the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, announced the urgent convening of a session of the regional council, where deputies are expected to express their support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The session will take place on Saturday, March 1, at 12:00.
“Right now, our state needs us to be consolidated and act united at all levels, putting aside political or other misunderstandings. I am initiating the convening of an extraordinary session of the Lviv Regional Council. We must support President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has been and continues to be with his people, and is currently defending their interests in very difficult conditions,” – wrote Maksym Kozytskyi.
He emphasized that it is the duty of the deputies to gather in full attendance. It should be noted that the urgent session is being called against the backdrop of news about the Ukrainian president's visit to the USA on February 28. A dispute arose between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump when they were set to sign an agreement on rare earth minerals. Trump claimed that Zelenskyy showed disrespect to the USA in the Oval Office and was “unprepared for peace.” Following this, Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian delegation left the White House early.
Additionally, on February 28, the deputies of the Zolochiv District Council unanimously expressed their support for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The appeal states the inadmissibility of negotiations concerning Ukraine without the Ukrainian side.
“We acknowledge that you, as President, Commander-in-Chief, who the people entrusted to lead the state, and the Ukrainian society are under pressure to force concessions to the occupiers. Against us works an enhanced hostile propaganda from Russia developed over many years. However, the Ukrainian people, our defense and security forces continue to heroically resist all challenges and will not allow panic and despair,” – states the appeal to the president.
Recall that on February 20, support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also expressed by the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, during a session of the Lviv City Council. The mayor emphasized that it is only Ukrainians who have the right to assess the leadership of their country. This statement came after scandalous remarks by American President Donald Trump, who called the President of Ukraine a dictator supported by only 4% of the population. In addition, Trump accused Ukraine of unwillingness to end the war.
