Paulo Fonseca has been appointed as the new head coach of Lyon, as reported by the official website of the French team. The 51-year-old specialist has signed a contract with the "Weavers" until June 30, 2027.

He replaces Pierre Sages, who managed the team from November 30, 2023, and was dismissed on January 28 after a series of failures. Fonseca is well-acquainted with the French league, having coached Lille for two seasons.

Notably, Lyon currently sits in seventh place in the Ligue 1 standings after 19 rounds, accumulating 30 points. They trail the leader, PSG, by 17 points. In the French Cup, Lyon suffered a humiliating exit to a representative from the fifth division, but managed to secure a spot in the Round of 16 of the Europa League.

It’s worth mentioning that Fonseca began his coaching career in 2005 at the Portuguese club Estrela. He later managed local teams such as Odivelas, Pinhalnovense, Aves, Paços de Ferreira, Porto, Braga, Donetsk's Shakhtar, Italy's Roma, and France's Lille. His last club was the Italian Milan, from which he was dismissed on December 30, 2024.
