The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has addressed Congress with a request for an additional $24 billion in aid for Ukraine to enhance its military support and replenish the diminished U.S. stockpiles. This was reported on November 26 by the New York Post, citing Politico.Pro.
According to the request, the Office of Management and Budget of the White House proposed to include this material assistance in a package of measures to prevent a funding halt during the transition of the presidential administration.
The proposed $24 billion aid for Ukraine is suggested to be allocated as follows:
The publication notes that some Republicans have already condemned the initiative of the current president.
“Joe Biden has just given away $4.7 billion of taxpayers' money, unilaterally ‘forgiving’ loans to Ukraine. Congress should not give him a free gift for further sabotaging President Trump's peace negotiations on the way out. Any funding requests from Biden must be rejected,” wrote Senator Mike Lee of Utah on X.
As reported by ZAXID.NET, on November 20, the administration of President Joe Biden submitted a statement to Congress regarding its intention to cancel half of Ukraine's debt for economic assistance – approximately $4.65 billion. The remaining 50% of the loan could be forgiven by the next president, Donald Trump, on January 1, 2026.
