President of the United States Donald Trump has extended the state of emergency in the U.S. for another year due to Russian aggression against Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on Russia. This is stated in a notification published in the U.S. Federal Register. The document will come into effect on February 28.

The document notes that the actions of the Russian Federation continue to undermine democratic processes in Ukraine, posing threats to its peace, security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It also indicates that the policy of the Russian government facilitates the illegal appropriation of Ukrainian assets. Furthermore, the document states that Russia's actions endanger U.S. security.

“The actions and policies referred to in these orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States,” the document states.

In light of this, the U.S. will maintain the state of emergency concerning the situation in Ukraine, which includes sanctions against Russia, until March 6, 2026.

The state of emergency in the U.S. due to Russian aggression against Ukraine was first declared by then-President Barack Obama in March 2014. At that time, Executive Order No. 13660 concerned the imposition of sanctions against those who facilitated the annexation of Crimea. Since then, the order has been extended several times by Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden in response to the escalating Russian aggression.

It is worth noting that on February 24, the United Kingdom imposed the most extensive sanctions package against Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The restrictions affect 107 individuals and entities, 13 companies, and 14 Russians, including leaders of key sectors of the Russian economy.
