Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained three officers from a military unit in Donetsk region who were embezzling fuel. This was reported on Thursday, January 30, by the press service of the SBI.

According to investigators, from September 2024 to January 2025, the commander of the logistics battalion, his deputy, and a staff officer inflated the reported usage of fuel and lubricants by the military unit in their documents. The "surplus" obtained in this way was sold, and the money was embezzled.

The SBI established that the officers were reselling at least 10 tons of fuel and lubricants stolen from the unit every month. It is noted that the exact amount of damages is currently being determined.

“Currently, law enforcement conducted 9 searches at the residences and offices of the military personnel. Money, 8 tons of fuel, documents confirming the illegal activities, mobile phones, computer equipment, bank cards, and notes were seized,” the SBI statement reads.

Law enforcement announced charges against the officers for the theft of military property committed by an organized group under martial law (Part 3, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 28, Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The suspects face punishment of up to 15 years in prison.

The court has ordered preventive measures for the suspects in the form of detention with the possibility of bail. The bail amounts range from 423,000 UAH to 908,000 UAH.

Recall that in December 2024, the SBI uncovered two officials from a military unit in the Yavoriv district of Lviv region who stole fuel worth 6 million UAH.
