In Bukovina, customs officials at the border with Romania uncovered a smuggling operation involving valuable medications worth over 1 million UAH. The offender attempted to bring diabetes medication for Type 2 diabetes into Ukraine. Customs officers confiscated the goods, and a report was filed against the violator.
At the "Krasnoyilsk – Vykovu de Sus" checkpoint on the border with Romania, on the evening of January 29, employees of the Chernivtsi customs recorded an attempt to illegally transport pharmaceuticals, reported the Bukovina customs. The driver was trying to smuggle 55 packages of an expensive diabetes medication called "Munjaro QuickPen" into Ukraine.
"Among the personal belongings of a Ukrainian citizen returning from London, customs officials discovered 55 packages of medical products. Their total value exceeds 1.1 million UAH", stated the Chernivtsi customs.
The medication "Munjaro QuickPen" is produced in the USA and is also used in the cosmetic industry for treating obesity. One package of the drug costs around 15,000 UAH.
On January 29, customs officials also detained a Romanian citizen who attempted to illegally transport 4 packages of medication into Ukraine without declaration, with an estimated value of approximately 105,000 UAH. The authorities found the drugs in the individual's car among personal items. The offender attempted to smuggle the medication "Enbrel," which is used for treating active and progressive psoriatic arthritis in adults.
In both cases, customs officials filed reports for violations of customs regulations under Part 3 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The medications have been temporarily confiscated, and the violators face a fine of 5,100 UAH.
