In the Rostov region, during the night of Friday, November 29, explosions were heard amid an aerial attack, and a fire broke out at the "Atlas" oil depot near the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky. This information was reported by Russian Telegram channels and the acting governor of the Rostov region Yuri Slyusar.
Initially, the Russian official claimed that 30 Ukrainian drones had been allegedly shot down and neutralized by electronic warfare systems. According to him, as a result of the attack, the roof of a private house in the Masalivka hamlet of the Kamensky district was damaged, but there were no casualties. In the Dyachkine settlement of the Tarasivsky district, glass was shattered in a residential building due to debris falling onto a private property.
In the same report, Slyusar did not mention the fire at the oil depot. In contrast, Russians published footage of the blaze at the site. Later, the acting governor stated that a large fire was being extinguished at an industrial facility in the Kamensky district.
Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andryushchenko wrote that the attack on the Rostov region lasted from 00:15 to 5:45 on November 29.
“According to locals, there were 4 drones, and one hit. However, it hit quite significantly. Also, debris from the air defense system penetrated the roof of a house in the Masalivka hamlet of the Kamensky district and in the Dyachkine settlement of the Tarasivsky district. The impact sites also clearly confirm that the target was indeed the oil refinery,” the post states.
At 08:35 on November 29, Andryushchenko added that at least two tanks caught fire as a result of the attack, and a fire also broke out on the territory of the base.
In the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was noted that during the night of November 29, air defense destroyed 47 drones:
It should be noted that the "Atlas" oil depot is part of the Russian military-industrial complex, which supplies fuel to the army. It is also a significant logistics hub; in 2020, the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the state reserve conducted training exercises at the facility.
The oil depot has already been targeted by Ukrainian drones on the night of August 28, 2024. At that time, a fire broke out on the site of the vertical tanks due to shelling.
Updated at 11:40. Later, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the "Atlas" oil depot.
“On the night of November 29, a strike was carried out on the "Atlas" oil depot located in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation. As a result of the strike, a fire broke out on the site, with at least two centers of ignition being recorded,” the report states.
Recall that on the night of Thursday, November 28, strike drones attacked two districts of Krasnodar Krai in Russia. The occupying Ministry of Defense claimed that air defense allegedly shot down 14 strike drones over the region.
