Today, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Christians have observed this holiday since the 4th century. The word "presentation" translates from Old Slavic as "meeting," which commemorates the encounter of Jesus Christ with the righteous Simeon, who recognized the 40-day-old infant as the Messiah.
