Scientists reveal a supplement that can reverse aging and rejuvenate our bodies, pushing back the effects of old age.

The quest for eternal youth is a dream shared by millions of people who are willing to undergo various procedures to achieve it. However, recent studies have revealed that a common supplement may hold the key to combating the effects of aging in the body.

A new study by scientists has revealed that daily intake of omega-3 supplements can slow down biological aging, effectively reversing time in terms of cellular and organ health. Unlike chronological age, which is based on the number of years lived, biological age reflects the condition of our cells and the body as a whole. Researchers found that taking just one gram of omega-3 daily for three years reduces biological age by four months, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

The effect of reducing biological age with omega-3 was even more pronounced when combined with vitamin D intake and regular physical exercise, indicating a potential strategy for enhancing health and longevity.

In a study led by Heike Bischoff-Ferrari, a professor of geriatric medicine and healthy aging at the University of Zurich, published in the journal Nature Aging, epigenetic clocks—biological tools that measure cellular aging—were used to analyze nearly 800 participants aged 70 and older. Participants were divided into one of eight groups receiving either omega-3, vitamin D, physical exercise, or a combination of these.

The results showed that omega-3 slows aging according to three different epigenetic clocks, while the combined approach involving omega-3, vitamin D, and physical exercise positively affected four clocks. Despite the seemingly modest effect, Bischoff-Ferrari emphasized that such interventions could have significant long-term benefits: "Although the effect may seem small—rejuvenating biological age by three to four months over three years, if sustained, could have a substantial impact on public health."

Previous studies by the same team have already confirmed the health benefits of omega-3, showing that it reduces the risk of infections by 13%, decreases the number of falls by 10%, and even cuts the incidence of invasive cancer by 61% over three years. These findings are based on growing evidence that lifestyle and dietary interventions can have a profound effect on our biological aging.

Some scientists involved in the study, including Steve Horvath, admitted to incorporating omega-3 and vitamin D into their own daily routines. "I do this every morning along with my coffee," Horvath stated, expressing his confidence in the results obtained.

However, despite the encouraging findings, some experts urge caution, highlighting the need for further research on the effects of omega-3 consumption on our bodies. Dr. Mary Ni Lochnain, a researcher at King's College London, called the study promising but clarified that it primarily involved healthy, active older adults. Ultimately, she noted that despite the relatively modest benefits, omega-3 and vitamin D remain accessible and low-risk options worth considering for older individuals as dietary supplements.

Meanwhile, Professor Kevin McConway, an honorary professor of applied statistics at The Open University, pointed out that the study lacks data on long-term survival outcomes. "It's possible that long-term omega-3 supplementation will have a greater impact on biological aging, or maybe it won’t. And the study does not specify how these biological clocks will be affected if the individuals taking the supplement stop taking it," he cautioned.
