The defense forces in Kursk have completely destroyed one of the three North Korean brigades fighting alongside Russia. This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with AP on February 2.

According to the Ukrainian president, the three brigades composed of North Korean fighters have suffered significant losses in Kursk. Zelensky stated that one of the brigades has been "completely destroyed" as a result of combat operations.

“We have seen three brigades of North Koreans; one has been destroyed. The other two have suffered losses, although I am not sure of the exact numbers, but they were not allowed to engage in assaults today. They might be permitted to do so later, to recover, and so forth. This could happen any day now. We understand that they could undertake offensive actions. We have a rough idea of what those moments, directions, and dates could be; that’s how intelligence works. We are preparing for their possible moves,” – stated Volodymyr Zelensky.

Additionally, the President of Ukraine reported that on January 31, the Armed Forces successfully struck the central command post of the enemy in the Kursk region. According to Zelensky, as a result of the shelling, “there are losses among both Russian key officers and North Korean officers” – he did not specify the exact losses suffered by the enemy but suggested that it could involve dozens of officers.

Volodymyr Zelensky added that according to the latest data, the losses of North Korea in Kursk have amounted to approximately 4,000 personnel. Ukrainian intelligence reports that North Korea has sent a total of 12,000 soldiers to fight against Ukraine.

Recall that on January 31, the NYT reported on the withdrawal of North Korean soldiers from the front line after significant losses. Sources cited by the media suggested that the decision to withdraw North Korean forces from the front line could change, and North Korean soldiers might again assault Ukrainian positions in Kursk.
